Specific Objectives

  • Provide an open source reference implementation of all protocols, middleware and tools required to build and operate CONVERGENCE applications
  • Build tools and applications and test them, demonstrating the usefulness of the proposed framework in four real-life scenarios involving respectively:
    • a large public library of digital media;
    • a large archive of photos;
    • services for the retailing sector;
    • a collaborative distributed system allowing students to receive and collectively annotate podcasts of lectures in a university setting
  • Test the scalability, robustness and security using FIRE experimental facilities, more specifically:
    • the scalability of Convergence networking functionality;
    • the robustness of the protocols;
    • the security of the protocols,
  • Provide feedback to FIRE experimental facilities, contributing to define the challenges for such facilities and to suggest possible improved functionality
  • Evaluate its solutions in technical terms, in terms of their acceptability to users and in terms of their longer-term social and economic impact.
  • Contribute to relevant standardization work
  • Investigate business scenarios relevant to the deployment of CONVERGENCE-based solutions, and detail plans for the exploitation of project results by individual partners.
